We always wanted to farm, but had to work for many years before things slotted into place and we were lucky enough to get a beautiful smallholding and live together as a family. I think we might be described as “quirky” .
We want to grow some of our own food, and live as sustainably as possible. This year we have cut some logs from the wood for GSM’s wood burner, grown a few veggies and started keeping chickens.
Who lives at the farm?
GEORDIE SMALLHOLDER (GS)
Geordie Smallholder is an engineer and tractor enthusiast. His favourite T.V. program is Car SOS. His super power is laser focusing on our latest wheeze, sorry project.
GEORDIE SMALLHOLDER WIFE (GSW)
GSW hails from much further north than GS. She was a born horse lover and still likes mucking out. GSW’s super power is research; she can find almost anything on her favourite search engine. This super power can also be used to locate GS’s reading glasses.
GEORDIE SMALLHOLDER MOTHER
GSM is a Northumbrian lady. GSM’s super power is baking: she keeps us fully stocked with delicious biscuits, cakes and puddings.
GEORDIE SMALLHOLDER SON
GSS is a teenage boy. Habitat is his bedroom, where he hones his skills in technology. Favourite T.V. program is “The Big Bang Theory”. GSS’ super power is catching the farm cats so that GSW can worm them. Animals follow him when he walks round the farm.
The Artist-in-Residence
The Artist went to University but found the course stifled her creativity so she is working on setting up a pottery business. Her studio is attached to the stables so the horses can watch her as she works. AIR has a dark sense of humour and likes gothic literature. AIR’s super power is turning mundane stuff into beautiful objects.
EXPERT BEEKEEPER
Expert Beekeeper EB is related to GSW. GSS refers to us both as the twin towers. EB loves honey, which is good for the job. Super power: might be a wee bit psychic.
EXPERT FORESTER
Expert Forester can fell trees, cut logs, and turn wood. He makes lovely items from lumps of wood. Super power: ask the squirrels lol. Second super power is an amazing ability to converse on any subject known to man, or woman.
MIL-lie
A regular visitor to the farm is GS’s Mother In Law, Millie.
One of our regular readers and commenters is Millie’s brother, who lives in a dry continent a long way from the farm. We are wishing we had some of his sunshine!
